LYCKSELE
Additions : 1971 Lycksele district (Landskommun)
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on 1947, the first to be granted in Lapland. The arms show in the chief a balance, the symbol for trading, the main source of income for the city at the time. The lower part of the arms shows a wolf, the symbol of watchfulness. The original image showed the wolf with the tail down, but the council decided that that was not an appropriate position for the wolf. Thus the present arms were granted.
