HALMSTAD
Additions : 1974 Harplinge
Origin/meaning :
The medieval seals of Halmstad showed a helmet with sheaves of straw. The straw (halm) is certainly meant to be canting, and this can also be the case with the helmet as such, as the old German name of the town is Helmstade. The full arms were granted to the town by King Christian of Denmark in1603 as in those days Halland was Danish. The heart is taken from the Danish National arms, the crown symbolises the royal status of the city.
