Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted on September 24, 1992.

The arms show a white griffin, which is an ancient symbol used for the nothern part of the Black Sea. The red colour symbolises the heroic and often dramatic history of the region. The griffin can also be seen as the defender of the republic. The griffin holds a small pearl in its forepaw. The pearl symbolises the uniqueness of the region, the blue colour purity. The antique columns besindes the shield symbolise the ancient Greek and other colonists in the region. The riging sun symbolizes prosperity and regeneration. The motto "Prosperity in Unity" is the main idea of the multinational republic.
