FEODOSIA (Феодосія)Oblast : Crimea ![]() Origin/meaning: I have no idea which arms are presently used by the town. I have thus shown above the historical arms. The first arms were designed by the town-major S.Bronevs'kyi and it symbolized the development of trade (staff of Mercury) and rich harvests of Taurida (wheat sheaf, fleece and trident). The arms were granted on May 11, 1811.
The second arms were granted on November 17, 1844. The new arms showed the Russian Imperial eagle above a tower and sailing ship. The tower is the old Genoese tower in the city, the ship symbolised the trading.
In 1975 B. Kene proposed the above arms showing a bull's head above a unidentified ibject and in a free canton the provincial arms. The shield is crowned with an mural crown with three embattlements and was placed on two anchors connected by the ribbon of the Order of St.Alexander. These arms were not adopted by the city.
The third arms were granted on December 14, 1967. These arms show again the tower, with an anchor for the shipping and trading and the vine leaf and bunch of grapes for the viticulture in the region. Literature : Panyenko, 1996; http://heraldry.com.ua. |
