Origin/meaning:
The arms were adopted on January 29, 1998.
The arms show a golden sun surrounded by three wheat ears in dynamic motion. The sun and also the golden colour are a symbol of light, bravery and force; the blue field means water, especially the Dnipro(Dnieper) and Slavuta rivers.
The large arms consists of the small arms and a cartouche. In the bottom of the cartouche there are a crossed sabre and mace. Above the shield is an image of Taras Shevtshenko, a well-known poet. .
