Civic Heraldry of Ukraine УкраїнськаГеральдика BERDIANSK Origin/meaning: In the upper part shows a covered wagon and a plough that signify the half-nomad life of the Nagaiski settlers in the district and tilling the soil by the others. The lower half shows an anchor, symbolising the importance of shipping. The arms were based the arms as used in Imperial times, dating from the late 18th century, see below. In 1868 B. Kene designed new arms for the city, see below. The first quarter showed the arms of the Tarijvska province. The anchor again symbolised the sea, and the plough irons the original settlers.
