BALAKLAVA (Балаклава)Oblast : Crimea
Origin/meaning: The upper part of the arms show the cross of St. Georg . It symbolises the famous Battle of Balaklava as well as the St. George monastery in Balaklava. The wall symbolises the Chembalo fortress in the town. The golden bar shows a typical ancient Greek decoration, symbolising the settlement of ancient Greeks in the region. The three fish are a canting symbol, the name is derived from the Turkish Balıklava (a fish nest). The bunch of grapes symbolises the viticulture.
