VECIANA
Province : Barcelona
Origin/meaning:
The history of Veciana has been linked originally with the four castles inside this municipality, created in the 19th century: Veciana, Miralles, Segur and Montfalcó el Gros. The castle of Veciana (11th century), after belonging to the bishops of Vic and to the Crown, passed to the barony of Segur; the first barons were the Calders, symbolized by the cauldrons Or on Gules, taken from their canting arms ("calder" means in Catalan a cauldron). The falcon on the mount is a canting allusion to the castle of Montfalcó, named before. These arms have been officially granted on 8th July 1996.
