PALAMÓS

Province : Girona

Origin/meaning:
The arms show the castle of Sant Esteve, that was bought by the king Pere II to the canons of Girona (1277) in order to create the town; its municipal charter was granted in 1279. On the castle the royal flag of Catalonia-Aragon. All around there are three chess rooks Or on Azure, taken from the arms of the Requesens family, counts of Palamós since 1484; the crown is also a crown of a count. These arms have been officially granted on 29th May 1989.
