OLIUS
Province : Lleida
Origin/meaning:
The arms show the ancient castle of Olius (10th century), that at the beginning was the residence of the counts of Urgell (the castle contains the arms of the county: chequy Sable and Or). In 1182, the count Ermengol I gave the local castle to the monastery of Santa Maria de Solsona (symbolized here by the crescents and fleurs-de-lis). The marquis crown and the staff allude to the former jurisdiction of the bishops of Solsona, marquises of Olius. The arms have been officially granted on 26th April 1989.
