MOTA DEL CUERVO

Province : Cuenca

The arms are canting, the name "Mota del Cuervo" means "Crow's Tower".

The name of the town is derived from a local legend :
In the Middle Ages Spain was at war against Moorish invaders.
A Christian Princess fell in love with a Muslim prince, but his father disapproved of this relationship so he sent his son to another place, captured the girl and put her in a tower (in the supposed place of the present town) with no food and only a little window. He believed that the girl wouldn't survive more than a few days, but he didn't know that a little crow was coming every day to the tower, bringing her some food.

Some time later, far away from that place, the girl's brothers were fighting against the girl's lover. They told him that the princess was captured and probably dead, so the prince hurried home, expecting to see her dead. There was another battle taking place near the tower, but he managed to go upstairs, and surprise, he found her alive! The two lovers were happy at last, but a lost arrow from the battle accidentally killed the princess... and the prince committed suicide after this.
