GERB
Province : Lleida
Municipality Os de Balaguer
Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted on September 9, 1991.
The castle of Gerb (shown in the arms) was built by the count Ermengol IV of Urgell in 1082, and during some years was the chief town of the county. The golden and black chequy are the arms of Urgell. Note that these arms haven't any crown at the top (differently to what is usual in all Catalan arms) because the village of Gerb belongs to the municipality of Os de Balaguer, and it's not a municipality itself.
