Origin/meaning :
The arms are a combination of the arms of the Council of Avilés and the arms of the Solís and Rodríguez de León families. The upper half shows the arms of the council, as the area historically belonged to Avilés. The sun is a canting element for the Solís family, who ruled the Solís estate and village in the municipality, and who were very influential in the Avilés council. The lower part shows the arms of the Rodríguez de León family, who also had a large estate in the present municipality.
The arms are not officially granted, but have been used since the early 20^th century.
