ARGAMASILLA DE ALBA

Origin/meaning:
The fields of the coat of arms refer to the Order of Saint John -Malta-
(argent cross on gules field) to the Duchy of Alba (azure
and argent) and to Don Quixote (helmet, sword and spear). The village was a
property of the Ducal House of Alba situated in the Lands of the Military
Order of Saint John, and it is said that Miguel de Cervantes wrote his novel Don Quixote in a jail in this town in La Mancha.
