ARENAS DE SAN PEDRO
Province : Avila
Origin/meaning:
The arms with a flaming castle symbolise the fact that in the 19th century the town was burned down twice. First in 1808 by French soldiers as a reprisal for the death of 24 soldiers who had been murdered after they plundered the city in search of provisions. The second time in 1838 in the first Carlist War (Dynastic War) by a group of 550 guerrillas led by Blas García, nicknamed the "Partridge".
