Origin/meaning:
The key in the arms indicates that the town was on a very strategical position between the Christian kingdom of Castilla and the Moorish kingdom of Granada. The city hence was the key to the conquest of the Moorish kingdom by the Castillian kings. The bordure was granted to the city by King Alfonso XI of Castilla y Leon, and shows the canting castles of Castille and lions of Leon.
