Origin/meaning:
Founded in 1632; transferred to the actual site in 1642.
The old arms show in silver, an eagle holding a sable in its claws. These arms were instituted on October 26, 1790 by decree of Catherine II.
The new arms show a quartered shield around, I red with a silver squirrel, II blue with a silver crystal, III blue with a silver snow flake and IV blue with a silver theodolite. Over all a silver escutcheon with a blue tower over the date 1632 written in red. On top of the shield a narrow red top edge with a square indentation.
Instituted on September 13, 1967 by the Executive Committee of the
Yakutsk City Soviet of People's Deputies.
