VYBORG


Origin/meaning:
The arms of Vyborg as shown above date from 1788 and are based on the oldest seal of Vyborg, known since the early 15th century. The seal already showed the town's initial under three crowns. When the angels were added is not clear.

In 1817 the arms were changed, see below. The reason thereof I don't know.

Vyborg/Viipuri became part of Finland after its independence, but was conquered by the Soviet Union in the Second World War. Whether the city uses arms at present, I don't know.
