TIKHVIN

Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted on July 10, 1773, the new arms on March 29, 1968.
The old arms show a shield, cut into two parts with a silver arc featuring a zodiac portion, which carries the date (in black figures) of granting the town status to this village. The upper part of the shield is blue with golden radiance on top showing that this settlement was also famous in previous times; the lower dark-red part carries the imperial crown signifying favour and protection of this town by Her Royal Majesty, whereas the dark-red field symbolises the zeal and fervour expected by the Crown from the town citizens for royal favours.
The new arms show in a green field a silver elk, striking silver sparks with its hooves, running to the left side of a silver anvil with the green inscription TIKHVIN over a silver town founding date of 1383.
