Origin/meaning:
The arms were adopted in 1989.
The chief shows the name of the city in Cyrillic lettering. The city is famous for the optical industry, which predominantly produces lenses for military purposes. The lower part of the arms symbolise two rays of light coming from a lens. The star on a tower in the upper right corner symbolises the Kremlin.
