KLIN (Клин)

Rayon: Klin
Province (Oblast): Moscow

Coat of arms of Klin (Клин)

Origin/meaning:
The history of the arms of Klin is rather complicated. The above image is the arms as used presently. I have no idea when these arms were granted/adopted.

Klin received arms in 1781, at the same time as most other Russian cities at the time. The arms showed the arms of Moscow province; St. George killing a dragon. The lower half shows a horseman for the Klin region itself. The horseman symbolises the postman who brought the mail from Moscow to St. Petersburg via Klin.

In 1883 the arms were changed and augmented, but the basic design remained the same. The arms were now crowned with a mural crown and two hammers as a symbol for industry were placed behind the shield.

In the early 1990s the old arms were restored, but later replaced by the present arms.
