Origin/meaning:
The arms were adopted on May 22, 1996.

The coat of arms of Ivanovo shows a woman spinning thread as Ivanovo is the traditional textile capital of Russia. It is also famous for the number of women who work there, because textiles tend to be women's work. Before industrialization, the original village of Ivanovo was a flax-processing center. Nowadays the Ivanovo State Textile Academy is situated in the town.
