Province (Oblast): Moscow

Origin/meaning:
The left arms were used before 1918, the right arms were adopted on January 22, 1991.

The upper part of the arms shows the arms of Moscow province. The lower part shows four crowns. Historically Russia was a poorly organised state with permanent quarrels and controversies between the regional princes, resulting in internal wars, which weakened the country. In order to reverse the effect produced by those wars, the princes from time to time gathered together trying to reach some agreement. One of congresses took place in Dmitrov and this is symbolised by the crowns.
