BOLESLAWOW
(Wilhelmsthal)
 Origin/meaning:
This used to be a small mining town founded 1581 in the Klodzko region by Wilhelm von Oppersdorf (thus named after him and the 'W' in the arms). As the mineral resources were short, the town soon lost its development stimulus and was finally deprived of town rights in 1892. As Wilhelmsthal was given to Poland in 1945, its name has been changed into Boleslawow. I cannot prove it, but it appears to me, the Polish name was just made up (derived from an old Polish name king name Boleslaw) to change typically German-sounding Wilhemsthal as the town was too new to have an original Slavic name provided.
