Coat of arms of Tarnowskie Góry

Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted on July 25, 1562.

The arms of Tarnowskie Góry show in the upper left quarter the golden wing taken from the arms of Duke Jan II Dobry of Opole who granted the city rights. The demi-eagle on the right half is the eagle of the Hohenzollern dynasty. The arms were granted by the rule rof the city in 1563, George Frederick, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach of the Hohenzollern dynasty.

The lower left quarter shows mining tools, as a symbol for the mining in the area.

After 1945 the reference to the Hohenzollers was removed and the colours were changed. Also the helmet and crest were no longer used. In 1994 these arms were still shown, but already in the 1980s an image with the present arms was published, although with slightly different colours, see images below.
