ROGOZNO
(Rogasen)
 Origin/meaning:
In 1445 the Polish King appointed Ulrich Ost as vassal over the city. Th arms of the Ost family are divided with a demi-eagle and a key. The oldest use of the arms dates from the 17th century on the oldest still existing seal of the city. Whether older seals have existed and what they showed is not known. On the seal the arms are shown as above, but with a small crown with three leaves and a small cross. When and why the small crown was added is not known. A later, still 17th century, seal shows the arms with the five leaves.
On a seal from 1835 the eagle was holding a sword, probably to indicate that the city had just been conquered by Prussia. This was later restored to the old situation.
