Origin/meaning:
The left arms show the arms as used in the 19th century, the right arms show the present arms.

The arms show a dragon or worm, a canting element for the German version of the name. The worm already appears on the oldest seal of the city, known since the early 15th century. All later seals and images show a worm or dragon, but the actual shape differs widely.
