Origin/meaning:
The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from 1580. The seal shows the same composition of wing and crosier as in the above arms. The second seal of the city, which is known since 1660, also shows the same composition. The two elements probably represent the two rulers in the area, the Bishops of Marienwerder and some local noble family. The arms were granted in the early 20th century.

I have no information on the present arms of the city.
