BRANIEWO

(Braunsberg)

Origin/meaning:
The arms may be used with two angels as supporters and a golden ring above the arms, through which several ears of corn are placed.
The tree in the arms already appears on the first 13th century seal of the city. The tree (then a linden) is held by a deer and a dragon. Its meaning or origin are not known.
On February 22, 1637 new city arms were officially granted by King Wenesclaus IV. These arms show a laurel tree and the angels and ring were added, as well as the motto "Sub hoc sidere truncata viresco". In addition to this, two crescents were placed around the angels. The arms were again granted in 1748 by King August III.

The arms as mentioned in the late 19th century.
