BABIMOST
Province: Lubusz
Origin/meaning:
The arms of the town (German name Bomst) show two crossed keys. The arms were first used on the 16th century town seal and are the symbol of St. Peter, the local patron saint. Another, 18th century, seal showed a rather different composition; a bridge over some wells, on which an eagle is placed, which is bending over like taking the keys from the water. The bridge may be canting (Most=bridge) and the eagle may be the Prussian eagle, as the town at the time belonged to Prussia. Later seals show the historical composition again.
Literature : Hupp, O: Kaffee Hag albums, 1920s.
