Lietuvos Heraldika Lithuanian Civic Heraldry PLUNGE Origin/meaning: The arms were granted on June 6, 1997. Plunge received city rights in 1792 and at the same time a city emblem was designed and granted. The emblem showed a garb and the Eye of Providence. The garb indicated (agricultural) wealth, the eye was the symbol of the Four Year Perliament, and was a widely used symbol of the government at the time. The arms were not used for a long time, in the same year both the city rights and the arms were already abolished. The arms were, however, still used unofficially. In 1969 the arms were re-established, except that the eye was replaced by a sun and a triangle. These arms lasted a little longer, but were abolished in 1970. Finally the arms were again restored in 1990, but it still took six years before the arms were officially granted. The arms of 1792 and 1969.
