AKMENE DISTRICT
Origin/meaning:
I have no information on the meaning of the lower half of these arms. The two crossed picks in
the upper part are obvious. The Naujoji Akmene city (administrative centre of the district) started in 1949 as a village for workers of a limestone mine and cement factory. Naujoji Akmene became a city in 1965, when the administrative centre of district was moved here from Akmene city. The building materials production is the chief industry of the city until now.
