ROMANO D'EZZELINO
Province : Vicenza
 Origin/meaning:
The coat of arms is very complex and it is the supposed coat of arms of
Ezzelino III da Romano "il tiranno" ruler of the "Marca Trevigiana" (i.e.
actual provinces of Treviso, Vicenza, Padova and Verona) in the 13th century.
The fleur-de-lis on the left half of the shield are (supposedly) the arms of an ancestor of Ezellino III, Ezzelino "il monaco", ruler of the "Marca Trevigiana".
The bars in the right half symbolise the "tournament ribbons" given by ladies
to the knights during tournaments. The colours gold and green are "ghibellini" colours.
Over the shield there is a helmet with a blue cross. It means that ancestors
of Ezzelino were crusaders in Holly Land: the blue cross was the symbol of the Italian crusaders. The helmet has a crown: it means that the family was noble.
Above the helmet there is an ostrich with a horseshoe in the beak.
