PORDENONE

Province : Pordenone

Stemma Comune di Pordenone

Origin/meaning:
The arms of Pordenone show a gate with two open doors. The name Pordenone comes from Portus Naonis (port of Naone/Noncello river), hence the gate and the river in the arms. The ancient arms of Pordenone showed the gate on a blue background (see below).

In the year 1401 the Emperor granted the city the right to place its arms on the shield of Austria (red with a silver bar). At the same time two small crowns were added, symbolising that the town had the power to discuss both civil and criminal trials.
