MONTE SANT'ANGELO

Origin/meaning:
The arms show the Archangel St. Michael, patron saint of the town. Mythology of the town indicate that the sword of Saint Michael was discovered around 490 in what is now the Sanctuary of S. Michele a grotto that became a pilgrimage destination. The cross is the cross of St. Michael.
The double-headed eagle supporter is the Imperial Eagle and is a symbol for the Duke who built the local castle.
