Iceland does not have a heraldic tradition. Only very few of the 'arms' in this part of the site are truly heraldic. Most of the symbols are more logos. Exceptions are Akureyri, Seyðisfjörður and several provincial arms.

Iceland is divided in counties (sýslar), cities (kaupstaðir) and municipalities (hreppur). Not all municipalities have arms.

    If the main town in the municipality is better known, the municipality will be listed under the name of the town, not the municipality.
