TROWBRIDGE (urban district council)

Incorporated into : 1975 West Wiltshire
The arms were retained by the new Trowbridge Town Council

Origin/meaning:
The arms were granted on December 5, 1951 to the Trowbridge Urban District Council and transferred to the Town Council by Order dated 16th April 1975.

The two garbs of barley in the chief represent agriculture, the mural crown symbolises local government. The fleece represents the textile industry in the town.

The crest shows an English lion (indicating that Trowbridge was a Royal Manor until Henry VIII bestowed it on his brother-in-law Edward Seymour) and a canting bridge.

The Motto "Respice Prospice" means Look Back, Look Forward.
