SOUTH AYRSHIREAdditions : 1996 Kyle & Carrick
![]()
Origin/meaning : The arms are those of Kyle & Carrick District council, with the addition of the supporters. The lion and the (heraldic) dolphin were taken from the old arms of Maybole Burgh, the ancient capital of Carrick. The dolphin is taken from the crest of the Kennedy family, Marquesses of Ailas, the lion is taken from King Robert I, who was Earl of Carrick before becoming King. The motto also is a new addition and is taken from a poem by Burns. Literature : Urquhart, 2001. |
