RUTHERGLEN (Community Council)

Area Council : South Lanarkshire

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on October 29, 1999.

These arms are the same as the old arms of Rutherglen Burgh but without the crest, supporters and compartment of the old one. They date from a time when Rutherglen was a shipbuilding town but the river was too shallow at that location for larger ships and shipbuilding moved down river to Glasgow.

Literature : Image and information provided by Don Smith, UK.
