NAIRN (District Council)
Additions : 1975 Nairn (Burgh)
Incorporated into : 1996 Highland (Area Council)
I have no colour image of these arms. Any bette rimage is welcome !
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on August 10, 1976.
The arms show the figure of St. Ninian, patron saint of Nairn and also part of the Nairn Burgh arms. The blue field represents the sea, whereas the star and sun are hostorically added to arms with saints to symbolise eternity. The sun has been made radiant as a reference to the old motto of the burgh, Sole Valemus. The chief shows two water budgets, which are taken from the old arms of Nairn County. The motto is also taken from the arms of the County.
