I have no larger image, any better image is welcome !
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on July 18, 1975..
The arms are based on the arms of the two former burghs and Lanark County Council. The eagle is taken from the arms of Airdrie, the flaming tower from Coatbridge. The red colour and the cinquefoils are taken from the arms of Lanarkshire. The monk os a canting symbol and refer to the fact that the area historically belonged to the Cistercian Abbey of Newbattle. The wavy division line symbolises the Monkland canal.
The motto "Vigilanter" (Watchfully) is taken from the arms of Airdire and Lanarkshire.
Literature : Urquhart, 1979
