KIKCALDY (District Council)
Additions : 1975 Burghs of Buckhaven & Methil, Burtnisland, Kinghorn, Kirkcaldy, Leslie, Leven, Markinch; Districts of Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Wemyss
Incorporated into : 1996 Fife Area Council.

I have no colour image of these arms. Any better image is welcome !
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on October 17, 1975
The arms are based on the old arms of the Burgh of Kirkcaldy, showing an abbey or church. Kirkcaldy church was dedicated in 1242 to St. Bryce. Kirkcaldy was a burgh of the Abbey of Dunfermline, which may be the origin of the building. The gold buckle is taken from the arms of Leslie, the garb symbolises agriculture and the galley symbolises fishing and other sea-faring interests. The motto "Vigilando Munio" (I guard by watching) is taken from Kirkcaldy Burgh.
Literature : Urquhart, 1979.
