Origin/meaning : The arms ahow a galley, which represents the Clan Chattan, a confederation of clans led by the Mackintosh clan. The clan Chattan were allies to the Lords of the Isles, who used a ship on their arms. The stag's head and bull's head are taken from the crests of two important clans in the area, the Fraser of Lovat and the MacLeods of MacLeod respectively. Literature : Patton, 1977 |
