HAWICK (Community Council)Area Council : Scottish Borders

Origin/meaning : The arms are based on the old burgh arms. The banner on the left with the date 1514 is that of the Abbot of Hexham (England). This was captured when Hexham raided Scotland in 1514, the year after our king and many knights and nobles were killed at Flodden. I have no information on the other elements. The moto is supposed to mean "Thor be with us, both Thor and Odin". Literature : Information provided by Erin Ferry |
