Origin/meaning :
The arms are granted in March 1975.
The arms shows a St. Andrew's cross for Scotland within a bordure and a red esutcheon. The cross on the escutcheon is taken from the arms of the ancient Earldom of Mar. The supporters are the unicorn common to all Regional Councils, and a ptarmigan, a typical bird in the region.
The Grampian Region was divided into five districts : Aberdeen city, Banff & Buchan, Gordon, Kincardine & Deeside and Moray
Literature : Urquhart, 1979
