GALASHIELS & LANGLEE (Community council)

Area Council : Scottish Borders

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on August 17, 1999.

The arms are based on the arms of the burgh of Galashiels and show a plum tree and two foxes.

The motto Sour Plums and the date refer to when English soldiers were on a raid (one of the many) and some of theme were gathering wild plums which grow in the area. They were surprised by some locals and sent to meet their maker, their guts being opened with the sword and the plums they had eaten spilled out, sour. So the story goes.
