Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on June 24, 1975.
The arms are largely based on the arms of East Kilbride (see below), with the addition of a red bordure. The checuered chief symbolises the Stewart of Torrance and the Maxwell of Calderwood clans; both have a long connection with the area. The cross is the symbol of Dt. Bride, after whom the town is named. The two stars are taken from the arms of the Lindsays of Dunrod. The oystercatcher is the symbol of St. Bride. The colours of the base symbolise wealth (gold) and agriculture (green).
The motto "Prosper but Dreid" is derived from the motto of the Earls of Lindsey.
