Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on September 3, 1975 and augmented on April 19, 1985.
The arms are based on those of the Burgh of Clydebank from 1930. The red saltire (cross) is the symbol of the Lennox region, in which the district is situated. The dove in the centre is a sign of peace. The cross is also the symbol of St. Patrick and thereby for Old and New Kilpatrick in the district. The image of St. Patrick also refers to these parishes. The cogwheel symbolises the industiral character of the region. The ruin symbolises the Roman Anonine Wall and Roman ruins in the area. The ship symbolises the shipyards in the district. The motto "Labore et Scientia" (By work and knowledge) is taken from the arms of the Burgh.
The 1975 arms were identical, except for the dove, see below.
