CLACKMANNANSHIRE (Area Council)
![]()
Origin/meaning : The red saltire on gold is from the Bruce family arms. Legend has it then that King Robert the Bruce left his gauntlet (mannan) on a rock (clack) here, thus giving the area its name. The gauntlets and saltire refer to this legend. The green in the chief is for agriculture. The black pale on silver represents the Erskine family, Earls of Mar and Kellie. The motto is also a reference to the above mentioned legend. Literature : Image and information provided by Laurence Jones. |
