Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on January 9, 1976.
The arms are based on the arms of the two former Burghs. The bear looking into his den, is canting for Bearsdem. The cross in the quartered shield is taken from the arms of Milngavie and should represent a mill-rind. The rose in the chies is taken from the arms of the Lennox Region and was part of both burgh arms. The wavy bar symbolises the Allander river.
The motto "Bear the Gree" means "Have the first place" and is taken from the arms of Bearsden.
Literature : Urquhart, 1979
